Lads playing with funny shaped balls; it’s for my health, honest!

Yes, it’s a photograph of a pair of rugby boots. No, I haven’t finally gone completely mad. Okay, well I’m not totally sure about that last one. I’ve (sort of) joined a rugby club… let me explain.

For the last year, my doctor’s been on at me to do more to get fit and lose weight. I hate the gym, I can’t stand bike riding and I need to do something with others so that I have the motivation to keep going after the novelty factor wears off. I’ve been casting around for ideas, then the other day one popped up and slapped me in the face.

I was listening to the radio (Gaydio, which I’ve recently discovered) and there was a lad on from the Manchester Village Spartans RUFC. The thing that appealed to me the most was, perhaps strangely, that the club seemed very much not just to be about the rugby. You see, to help my mental health, I need to make friends and what better way to do that than mucking about with some funny shaped balls?

So, on Wednesday night, I’m off to join them for a training session in north Manchester. And if this video’s anything to go by, I’m in for a real treat.

I shall, though, be wearing my WRU hoodie, just to make a friendly point 🙂
