Writing 201: Poetry | 2: Gift, Acrostic, Simile

Today’s assignment was to write a poem on the theme of ‘gift,’ in an acrostic form, using at least one simile. I chose to use my name as the basis of my acrostic, and change ‘gift’ to ‘gifts’ but there you go, here is my poem for today. As always, any and all feedback would be welcome. Thanks.

Mind you, it’s not all about others; gifts to use, like eyes to see, are present in us all.
Aim high, we’re told, buy a house, a car, a holiday.
Taking from others though, not my thing. So much more life can be.
Helping, caring, supporting my community: local, countrywide, all over the planet; others sometimes come first.
Equality, diversity, opportunity; care, love, support.
Welcome these true gifts, for you or to others, for they truly make a better, richer world.

It’s probably worth saying that I’ve decided not to go back and check/edit these poems before I publish them. I want to put them up here raw, and then I can always come back and have another bash at them later.

Anyhow, thanks for reading.

    1. I haven’t, I’ll look out for it. Thanks for liking my poem though, it means a lot to me to hear people say that, thanks 🙂
